The green schools award ceremony is an annual event where top performers from across the country are rewarded for their enterprise and innovative skills. The objective is to acknowledge the effort and also to encourage more schools to come forward and take part in this movement. The school children from across the country participate in various competitions, perform Street plays, watch films and mingle with each other. Green School program is an Environmental education program directed to subtle sensitizing students to the environment through hands on and thought provoking activities. It is also an environmental management system that audits through students the consumption of natural resources within school campuses and help schools become good environmental managers by deploying pragmatic solution to reduce wastage of precious resources. The audit has six sections: air, energy, food, land, water and waste – together they aim at providing a holistic picture of resource efficiency.
The 2018-19 audit exercise has made conscious efforts to connect all the various issues under these sections to climate change. 172 schools in the country including 7 in the state have been honoured with the Green School award of 2019-20. The Centre for Science and Environment has awarded the Green School award for promoting environmental awareness in school premises and in students. And total of 1074 schools across the country participated in this competition. It’s a great and proud moment for our school when we received the award the year 2019-20.
